Title: MUZEA A ČESKÉ ZEMĚ (1814 – 2014): VÝZVA K REVIZI HISTORIOGRAFICKÉ TRADICE
(Museums and the Czech Lands (1814 – 2014): A Call for a Revision of the Historiographic Approach)
Abstract: The marketing campaign launched by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic ahead of the upcoming
centenaries of the national geographic museums in Prague, Brno and Opava (1814–1818) is a most suitable starting point for a
long overdue critical discussion of the current approach to the history of museums in the Czech Land in particular and Central
Europe in general. The concept of a museum‘s foundation, establishment or first opening must be viewed historically because of
the difference in its content in a society divided into estates (pre-1860) and in a civil society (post-1860). This paper is a call for a
more fine-grained analysis of the history of museums as institutions and a detailed comparative treatment of this concept with
the aim of achieving a more objective phenomenology of the museum in 1800-1945 Central Europe.

Title: EXPERIMENT NESTEX – ALEBO AKO DNES V SLOVENSKÝCH PODMIENKACH UCHOPIŤ
STÁLU EXPOZÍCIU (The Nestex Experiment or How to Approach a Permanent Exposition in Today’s
Slovakia)
Abstract: The paper is devoted to the issue of permanent exhibitions, aiming special exhibi-tions in the Museum of Art, which is
recently in the center of international discussions in the field. Using the form of „case study“ it highlights the principles and form
of permanent exhi-bitions, which currently offer museum institutions in Slovakia. The core of the paper is the concept of a new
im/permanent exhibition of old art of the Slovak National Gallery in Brati-slava titled Nestex. Nestex is untraditional, in many
aspects experimental model of Gothic and Baroque art installation offering alternatives for exhibitions of art in a specific area of
Central Europe.

Title: VÝUČBA PREDMETU OCHRANA DOKUMENTOV SO ZAMERANÍM NA OBRAZOVÉ
KULTÚRNE DEDIČSTVO (Teaching Preventative Document Protection with a Focus on Photographic
Cultural Heritage)
Abstract: This paper introduces a course titled „Preventative Document Protection“ which is currently a part of the „Mediamatics
and Cultural Heritage“ curriculum in the „Library and Information Studies“ program of the University of Žilina and aims to provide
students with knowledge and skills related to the protection of documents in institutions dedicated to archi-ving and heritage
protection and preservation. As a part of the most recent iteration of the course, students conducted research on modeling
accelerated aging of materials exposed to increased temperature, humidity and light, tested the effect of different chemical
compounds and their neutralization on black and white photographs and surveyed color photographs and slides in the funds of
the Slovak National Library in Martin and various private collections. Such surveys are helpful when developing a manual for the
identification of unprovenanced photographs and slides. We also addressed the issue of color theory using the CIE LAB color
space and implementation of the Preservation Index (PI) as proposed by the Image Permanen-ce Institute (Rochester) to
estimate the shelf life of unstable materials. The objective of this research is to create a manual for the long-term prognosis of
the condition of unstable mate-rials. Students enrolled in this course have made a significant contribution to the creation of this
manual.
